As Barbara and I were planning for retirement, we decided to relocate from Houston to Dripping Springs. We found our perfect home and thought it was Heaven. In Norse mythology Valhalla is a Magnificent Palace or Hall which represents their Heaven, hence, we named our home Valhalla. (Disclaimer: We are not Norwegian, we just liked the name.)
Knowing I would likely set up some form of hobby business in the future, I named the company Valhalla Precision Systems. I am now using this identity for my Hot Rod Build Project.
Were you one of those kids that was always building something? Well I was. As a kid, my brothers and I rebuilt old go-carts, made push tanks, restored an old Mo-Ped, and so many other things that I cannot even remember. We scared the do-do out of our Mother almost every week with the stuff we came up with. By the time I turned 14, I was into motorcycles, airplanes, and I really wanted to build a VW dune buggy (these were all the rage way back then). As it turned out, the dune buggy build never happened.
Time went by, I grew up a little, and I attended Michigan Technological University and obtained degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. First job out of college was the Boeing Company, 747 Division located in Seattle. This lasted a couple of years until a very good friend of mine convinced me to come to Houston and get involved in the Offshore Oil Field. I spent the next 35 years in the corporate engineering departments for a couple of offshore drilling companies. Most of my involvement was in the design and construction of dynamically positioned drillships, semisubmersibles and jackups.
During this period, Barbara and I met and married and have been together for 36 years now.
I retired from the offshore oilfield in August 2015, settled in Dripping Springs, tried to grow up a little more but with little success, and continued to work towards my dune buggy build dream. My plans became reality once I discovered Factory Five Racing and their ’33 Hot Rod Build. What could be better, that is why my motto is “Live Your Dreams”.
